1 kW Solar System Price in Bihar (2026), With Subsidy
A 1 kW rooftop solar system in Bihar costs roughly ₹55,000–75,000 before subsidy. With the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy (₹30,000) and Bihar’s state top-up (₹10,000) — ₹40,000 in total — the cost after subsidy is roughly ₹15,000–35,000. Indicative ranges to check a quote against, not a quote.

Bihar’s state amount rests on press reports of the September 2026 launch; also a free-solar programme for Kutir Jyoti homes
We could not find the scheme’s official text, so the ₹10,000 / ₹20,000 / up to ₹20,000 amounts come from consistent reports in several newspapers (Amar Ujala, Prabhat Khabar, Patna Press and Saur Energy) of the launch event, which also say about 25,000 beneficiaries have been paid. No report states who is eligible or how to apply, and "3 kW and above" is described only as "up to ₹20,000", so for 5 kW and 10 kW systems we apply the same ₹20,000 cap — confirm that these sizes qualify. Separately, Bihar is reported to be installing free rooftop solar of about 1.1 kW for households in its Kutir Jyoti category under a utility-led RESCO model, with ten years of maintenance and up to 125 free units a month; that programme is not part of our figures, and if you are a Kutir Jyoti consumer you should ask your DISCOM about it before buying your own system.

PM Surya Ghar subsidy window: 31 March 2027
The ₹78,000 central residential subsidy is sanctioned through the end of FY 2026-27 (31 March 2027). Apply and get commissioned well before this date. No extension has been officially notified; MNRE has indicated the one-crore-household target may fall short by March 2027, which makes an extension plausible but not assured — plan around the published date.
As of October 2026 — confirm the current position on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
How the Subsidy Works for 1 kW in Bihar
- Central: ₹30,000 under PM Surya Ghar — the same everywhere in India.
- Bihar: The Bihar top-up is ₹10,000 per kW, so a 1 kW system earns ₹10,000 — still below the ₹20,000 cap, which is reached at 2 kW.
- Versus a central-only state: a household in Bihar receives ₹10,000 more for this size, so the cost after subsidy is lower by that amount (about ₹25,000–45,000 elsewhere, see the 1 kW India price guide).
What You Pay and How Fast It Pays Back
A 1 kW system in Bihar (about 4.9 peak sun hours) generates around 1,395 units a year. Payback below is the cost after the central and state subsidy divided by the yearly bill saving, from the low to the high end of the cost band.
| Your rate | Yearly saving | Payback |
|---|---|---|
| ₹6 per unit | ₹8,370 | 1.8 – 4.2 years |
| ₹8 per unit | ₹11,160 | 1.3 – 3.1 years |
| ₹10 per unit | ₹13,950 | 1.1 – 2.5 years |
How to Claim in Bihar
- Register on the national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) with your DISCOM — NBPDCL or SBPDCL — and your consumer number, and choose an installer empanelled with that DISCOM.
- Ask for the DCR certificate for the exact module model, because the central subsidy needs domestically manufactured modules.
- Ask your DISCOM or BREDA how the state assistance under the Mukhyamantri Solar Protsahan Yojana is claimed and what conditions apply — the reports we found describe the amounts but not the application steps.
- If you are a Kutir Jyoti consumer, ask your DISCOM about the reported free rooftop solar programme before buying a system yourself.
- After commissioning and inspection the central subsidy is paid to your bank account by direct benefit transfer.
Process as reported and checked October 2026; portals and rules change, so confirm each step with the official portal. State nodal agency: BREDA (Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency).
What Your Quote Should Include
- Module make, model and wattage — and written confirmation of ALMM listing and DCR status for that exact model, because the subsidy needs domestically manufactured modules.
- Inverter make, rating and warranty term, and whether arc-fault (AFCI) protection is included and switched on.
- Mounting structure: steel grade, thickness, galvanising, and the wind speed it is designed for.
- DC and AC cable sizes, earthing and lightning protection, and surge protection — the items that get cut when a quote is cheap.
- Net meter, DISCOM approval and inspection charges, and whether the installer handles the subsidy paperwork.
- Who services the system, for how long, and what the warranty covers in writing.
