On-Grid (Grid-Tied) Solar System

An on-grid solar system works in parallel with the electricity grid and has no batteries. Excess generation is exported to the grid through a net meter, and the grid supplies power at night — making it the cheapest and most common rooftop configuration in India.

On-grid inverters must shut down during a power cut (anti-islanding protection), so a grid-tied system alone does not provide backup. All PM Surya Ghar subsidised systems are grid-tied.
