Open Access
Open access lets large consumers (typically ≥100 kW–1 MW contract demand, state-dependent) buy power directly from a generator — such as an off-site solar farm — using the grid as a carrier, instead of buying from the DISCOM.
Green open access rules (2022) lowered the threshold to 100 kW for renewable power. Charges (wheeling, cross-subsidy surcharge, banking) vary by state and decide the savings; this is the standard route for factories to source cheap solar without roof space.
