BCD (Basic Customs Duty) on Solar

India levies Basic Customs Duty on imported solar modules and cells (introduced April 2022) to promote domestic manufacturing. The duty materially raises the cost of imported modules relative to Indian-made ones.

BCD, together with ALMM and DCR, forms the policy tripod behind India’s module-manufacturing build-out. Duty rates and exemptions shift with policy review — verify current rates before costing an import-based project.
