Voc (Open-Circuit Voltage)

Voc is the voltage a panel produces with no load connected — its maximum possible voltage, occurring on cold, bright mornings. String design must keep total cold-condition Voc below the inverter’s maximum DC input (commonly 1,000–1,100 V).

Silicon voltage rises as temperature falls (≈ +0.27%/°C below 25 °C), so a string measuring 950 V at noon can exceed the inverter limit at dawn in winter. Exceeding max DC voltage is a safety violation that voids inverter warranty.
