Luminous — Helios 51.2V 100Ah LFP lithium battery (5.12 kWh)

An Indian-brand 5.12 kWh LFP battery at a listed ₹99,999 with a 60-month warranty — and 3,000 cycles, IP20 and no BIS or BMS details on the page.

3.0of 5 · our score

Luminous’s Helios 51.2V 100Ah is a 5.12 kWh lithium (LFP) battery sold directly in India. The product page lists a 44.8–57.6 V operating range, 50 A charge and 100 A discharge current, a 52.5 kg weight and 440 × 640 × 147 mm dimensions, an indoor IP20 housing, “up to 3,000 cycles”, a 60-month warranty and compatibility with “HF and LF inverters”.

The listed price was ₹99,999 (MRP ₹1,00,000) on the day we read it, which gives a clear sourced figure for value: about ₹19,500 per nameplate kWh. One retrieval of the page also listed the cycle life as 3,000 at 25 °C, 0.5C/0.5C to 80% end-of-life; another retrieval did not show test conditions, so we treat the conditions as unconfirmed.

What the page, as we retrieved it, does not show: depth of discharge, BMS or communication protocol, operating temperature, certifications (including BIS under IS 16893, which a third-party blog attributes to Luminous lithium batteries but which we could not confirm on the product page) and parallel-expansion limits. Without a BMS protocol or communication interface, confirm compatibility with your specific inverter in writing.

For Installers & Engineers

Deeper technical detail beyond the homeowner-facing summary above.

Value arithmetic on a price snapshot: ₹99,999 ÷ 5.12 kWh is about ₹19,500 per nameplate kWh. At 3,000 cycles of the full nameplate energy, ₹99,999 ÷ (3,000 × 5.12 kWh) is about ₹6.5 per kWh cycled. The Loom Solar CAML we reviewed (₹1,15,000 in an August snapshot, 6,000 cycles) works out to about ₹3.7 per nameplate kWh cycled by the same method — the methods differ in depth of discharge and end-of-life definitions, so treat the comparison as indicative.

The 50 A charge and 100 A discharge limits at 51.2 V correspond to roughly 2.6 kW charge and 5.1 kW discharge; the page lists the currents, not powers. Check your inverter’s battery current against these limits.

IP20 means indoor installation only — dust and moisture must be kept out by the room — and 52.5 kg wall or floor placement needs a firm mount.

The warranty is “60 Months” with annual care packages mentioned; we did not see the warranty’s throughput or capacity-retention terms. Ask for the card.

“Works with HF & LF inverters” is a broad compatibility claim, not a tested-compatibility list. Match the battery’s communication protocol and voltage window to your inverter’s approved list.

The Scorecard

How we score

Usable Capacity & Depth of Discharge

3.5

5.12 kWh nameplate at 51.2 V with 100 A discharge; depth of discharge is not stated, so usable energy cannot be computed.

Cycle Life & Warranty

3.0

“Up to 3,000 cycles” and a 60-month warranty are adequate but lower than the 6,000-cycle ratings on other 48 V LFP batteries, with test conditions unconfirmed.

Safety & Chemistry

2.5

LFP chemistry is positive, but the page we retrieved shows IP20 and no BIS, BMS or certificate information.

Round-Trip Efficiency

—

Not assessed — no round-trip efficiency is stated.

Value for Money

3.0

About ₹19,500 per nameplate kWh is competitive upfront, but the lower rated cycle count raises the cost per kWh cycled (about ₹6.5 versus about ₹3.7 for the Loom battery by the same rough method).

Strengths

  • An Indian brand with a sourced list price (₹99,999) and a 60-month warranty
  • 5.12 kWh LFP at 51.2 V, 100 A discharge current
  • Direct-to-consumer listing with annual care packages mentioned
  • Works with HF and LF inverters per the page

Watch-outs

  • No BIS certification, BMS or communication details, DoD or operating temperature on the page as retrieved
  • “Up to 3,000 cycles” is about half the rated cycle life of some competitors; test conditions are unconfirmed
  • IP20 — indoor only; 52.5 kg
  • Price is a one-day snapshot and compatibility is a broad claim, not an approved-inverter list

Who It’s For

  • Buyers prioritising an Indian brand, a local service route and a lower upfront price for a 48 V LFP battery
  • Systems with a compatible 48 V inverter confirmed in writing by Luminous
  • Indoor installations where lifetime cycles matter less than upfront cost

Our Verdict

A convenient Indian-brand 5.12 kWh LFP battery at a clear price, but with half the rated cycle life of the best 48 V options and key safety and compatibility details missing from the page. Ask Luminous in writing for the BIS certificate, BMS protocol, DoD, temperature range and your inverter’s approved status before paying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Luminous Helios 51.2V 100Ah battery BIS certified?

We could not find BIS certification on the product page. A third-party blog attributes BIS certification (IS 16893) to Luminous lithium batteries, but that is unverified, so ask Luminous for the certificate for this exact model.

How many cycles does the Luminous Helios battery last?

The page says “up to 3,000 cycles”, with a 60-month warranty. One retrieval of the page listed 3,000 cycles at 25 °C and 0.5C/0.5C to 80% end of life; confirm the conditions with Luminous.

Will the Luminous Helios battery work with my hybrid inverter?

The page says it works with HF and LF inverters but gives no approved-inverter list or communication protocol. Check compatibility with your inverter’s maker before buying.
