Stäubli — Original MC4-Evo ready cable coupler (PV-KBT4 / PV-KST4-EVO READY)
The original MC4 in a tool-free spring-clamp version: 1,500 V, IP68 mated, TÜV-certified to IEC 62852 — and a datasheet that says exactly what it may be mated with.
Reviewed 6 October 2026
This is Stäubli’s own “MC4-Evo ready” cable coupler — the original MC4 design in a pre-assembled, tool-free version. Instead of crimping, a spring clamp closes automatically on the stripped cable; the connector arrives complete and pre-screwed. The datasheet lists it for 4 mm² and 6 mm² cable with an outer diameter of 5.4–7.6 mm, sizes commonly used for rooftop DC strings.
The headline numbers are strong: rated 30 A at DC 1,500 V, IP65/IP68 (1 m, 1 h) when mated, ambient range −40 °C to +85 °C, contact resistance below 0.5 mΩ, and certification by TÜV Rheinland to IEC 62852:2014+Amd.1:2020 (certificate R 60174999, as printed on the sheet).
The most useful line for a buyer is an easily missed one: the connector is “to be used with suitable mated connectors from the MC4 product family and suitable lead”, and MC4 and MC4-Evo are registered trademarks owned by Stäubli. Many connectors sold in India as “MC4” are look-alikes from other makers. We do not have data on how common counterfeits are in the Indian market, so we make no claim about that — but the sheet gives you identifiers to check: the order numbers (32.0030 for the female coupler, 32.0029 for the male), original packaging, and matching halves from one maker.
For Installers & Engineers
Deeper technical detail beyond the homeowner-facing summary above.
The spring-clip termination removes the crimp step — crimp quality is a common variable with field-assembled connectors — but it limits you to the two listed cable sizes (4 and 6 mm²) and to leads with an outer diameter of 5.4–7.6 mm. For reference, the Polycab H1Z2Z2-K datasheet we reviewed lists 5.8 mm for 4 mm² and 6.4 mm for 6 mm², both inside that window.
Rated current is 30 A with overvoltage category III and a 16 kV rated impulse voltage. 30 A comfortably covers a single string of current-generation modules, but it is a per-connector limit: paralleled strings through branch connectors need different parts, which are separate Stäubli products with their own ratings.
Mated protection is IP65/IP68, but unmated it is only IP2X, and the sheet states that unmated connectors must be protected from contamination with Stäubli sealing caps. In practice: keep caps on any open end during installation, especially in dusty or monsoon conditions.
The contact is tin-plated copper in a PA housing rated UL 94 V-0, with an ambient limit of +85 °C and an upper limiting temperature of 115 °C. On a dark roof in an Indian summer, cable and connector temperatures run well above air temperature, so the 115 °C figure matters more than the ambient one.
The Scorecard
How we scoreStandards & Safety Compliance
A third-party certificate to IEC 62852 at 1,500 V is printed on the sheet, with ratings for current, impulse voltage and fire class. Held back from full marks only because no India-specific approval is stated.
Build Quality & Durability
IP68 when mated, −40 °C to +85 °C ambient, tin-plated copper contacts and a UL 94 V-0 housing are what a roof connector needs; the unmated IP2X rating means installation discipline still matters.
Fit & Ease of Use
Tool-free and pre-assembled is easier and removes crimp variability, but it only suits two cable sizes and one mating family.
Documentation, Warranty & Support
A clear, dated datasheet with order numbers and a certificate number, but no warranty term and no India distributor or service route shown.
Value for Money
Not assessed — we have not sourced a current India price, and genuine connectors are sold through distributors with minimum order quantities (the sheet states a minimum of 20 packaging units).
Strengths
- 1,500 V DC / 30 A rating with TÜV Rheinland certification to IEC 62852 shown on the datasheet
- IP65/IP68 (1 m, 1 h) when mated, −40 °C to +85 °C ambient, UL 94 V-0 housing
- Tool-free spring clamp removes the crimping step and arrives pre-assembled
- Clear mating rule and printed order numbers that let a buyer check authenticity
Watch-outs
- Only for 4 mm² and 6 mm² cable with a 5.4–7.6 mm outer diameter — it is not a universal fit
- Must be mated with MC4-family connectors; do not combine with another maker’s “MC4-compatible” half
- Unmated ends are only IP2X — keep sealing caps on until the joint is made
- The datasheet states no warranty, no India-specific approval and no India distributor — ask your supplier for the original packaging and order number

Open the manufacturer’s datasheet for Stäubli Original MC4-Evo ready cable coupler (PV-KBT4 / PV-KST4-EVO READY)Who It’s For
- Installers who want a pre-assembled, tool-free connector for 4–6 mm² string cable and will buy genuine matched pairs
- Buyers specifying 1,500 V-rated components for larger or future-proofed systems
- Anyone auditing an existing plant’s connectors against a genuine-parts checklist
Our Verdict
A well-documented, properly certified connector whose most valuable feature for an Indian buyer is traceability: order numbers, a certificate number and a strict “mate with the MC4 family” rule. Buy matched genuine pairs, keep the sealing caps on, and treat a connector you cannot trace to a maker as a risk you are choosing to take.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all “MC4” connectors made by Stäubli?
No. MC4 and MC4-Evo are registered trademarks owned by Stäubli, and many connectors sold under the name “MC4” are made by other companies. The Stäubli datasheet says its connectors are to be mated with connectors from the MC4 product family, so do not assume a look-alike half is interchangeable.
Which cable sizes does the MC4-Evo ready coupler take?
The datasheet lists 4 mm² and 6 mm² cable with an outer diameter of 5.4 to 7.6 mm. Check your DC cable’s outer diameter before ordering.
Is the MC4-Evo ready connector waterproof?
When mated it is rated IP65/IP68 (1 metre, 1 hour). Unmated it is only IP2X, so keep sealing caps on any open end during installation.
