Huawei — SUN2000-5KTL-L1 single-phase battery-ready inverter
A 98.4% peak-efficiency single-phase inverter with arc-fault protection — hybrid only when paired with Huawei’s high-voltage LUNA2000 battery and a separate backup box.
Reviewed 6 October 2026
The SUN2000-5KTL-L1 is Huawei’s single-phase residential inverter, described on the datasheet as “battery ready”. By itself it is a grid-tied PV inverter with two MPPT trackers (one input each), a 600 V maximum input, 5,000 W rated AC output (5,500 VA maximum apparent power), 98.4% maximum and 97.8% European efficiency and IP65 protection. With a LUNA2000 battery it becomes a hybrid, charging at up to 5,000 W and discharging at up to 5,000 W.
Safety and monitoring features are the highlight: the datasheet lists active arc-fault protection, residual-current and insulation monitoring, Type II DC and AC surge protection, battery charging from the grid, built-in WLAN with the FusionSolar app and optional 4G or Ethernet dongles, and compatibility with Huawei’s module-level optimizers (which lift the allowed PV input to 10,000 Wp).
The practical limits: backup power needs an extra Backup Box (B0 or SmartGuard-63A-S0), the battery port is high-voltage (350–560 V) and takes only Huawei’s own LUNA2000 modules, and this is the EU datasheet — its grid-code list is European and it shows no India approvals. Confirm India availability, service and approvals with your supplier before specifying it.
For Installers & Engineers
Deeper technical detail beyond the homeowner-facing summary above.
PV side: recommended maximum PV power is 7,500 Wp (10,000 Wp with optimizers and long strings, per the datasheet footnote); start-up 100 V; MPPT range 90–560 V; rated input 360 V; 12.5 A per input and 18 A short-circuit.
Battery side: compatible batteries are LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 and LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1; operating range 350–560 V DC, maximum operating current 15 A. The inverter can charge at 5,000 W and discharge at 5,000 W (5KTL), but a single LUNA2000-5-S0 battery module is itself limited to 2.5 kW output — so the usable system power depends on how many battery modules you buy.
Efficiency: 98.4% maximum and 97.8% European weighted are the best figures among the hybrid and hybrid-ready inverters we reviewed (the Growatt MIN grid-tied model also lists 98.4% maximum), though European weighted efficiency of an on-grid inverter is not the same as battery round-trip losses.
The datasheet lists a “nighttime power” draw under 2.5 W, a 12.0 kg weight with brackets, 365 × 375 × 156 mm dimensions, natural convection cooling and a −25 °C to +60 °C range with derating above 45 °C.
A footnote states the values are measured by an internal Huawei laboratory in a specific environment and may vary, which is a standard but worth noting caveat.
The Scorecard
How we scoreConversion Efficiency
98.4% maximum ties the best figure in our inverter reviews and 97.8% European is the highest we have recorded.
Reliability & Build
Arc-fault protection, insulation and residual-current monitoring, Type II SPDs and IP65 are strong on paper; no India field data and values are internal-lab figures.
Monitoring & Software
Built-in WLAN with the FusionSolar app, RS485 and optional 4G/Ethernet dongles.
Service Network & Support
The EU datasheet gives no warranty term or India service route, and we have not confirmed India availability.
Value for Money
Not assessed — hybrid use also needs a LUNA2000 battery and backup box, and we have not sourced India prices.
Strengths
- 98.4% maximum (level with the best we have reviewed) and 97.8% European efficiency (the highest recorded)
- Arc-fault, residual-current and insulation monitoring listed, with Type II surge protection on both DC and AC
- Built-in WLAN plus FusionSolar app; optional 4G/Ethernet dongles
- Optimizer-compatible (up to 10,000 Wp) and light at 12 kg
Watch-outs
- Backup output requires an additional Backup Box; the battery is high-voltage and Huawei-only
- EU datasheet: lists European grid codes and no India-specific approvals or warranty term
- Maximum system power depends on the number of LUNA2000 modules (one module delivers 2.5 kW)
- We have not confirmed India sales, service coverage or any procurement restrictions — ask your supplier in writing
