Skilancer Solar — SS-01 Series waterless cleaning robot

An Indian waterless robotic cleaner aimed at multi-megawatt plants — published without a datasheet, so we are not rating it, and here is what to ask before you buy any cleaning robot.

—of 5 · our score

Skilancer Solar is an Indian maker of robotic solar-panel cleaners. Its SS-01 Series is described on its website as a fully automatic, waterless dry-cleaning robot for high-scale, multi-megawatt utility plants. It uses ultra-soft, customised PBT spiral brushes, carries its own integrated solar panel and heavy-duty LFP battery (so it needs no power from the plant), and is listed with an IP65 casing, operation up to 70 °C, a climbing capability of up to 25° and zero litres of water. The company also lists a hand-portable SS-Manual series for small rooftops and commercial sites, and an inspection series with thermal sensors and AI cameras — with no technical detail for either.

The company claims its systems recover generation lost to soiling, “8–18% depending on location”. That is a manufacturer’s claim and we have not verified it. Soiling losses genuinely vary by site — dust, rainfall, tilt, nearby construction and bird droppings — so a number quoted for one plant is not a promise for yours. Treat any single “10–15%” or “15–18%” figure as a ceiling to test, not a forecast.

We could find no public datasheet: no runtime, battery capacity, panel-row length or module-gap limits, brush life, maintenance interval, warranty or certification documents. Under our methodology we do not score a product on marketing statements alone, so this review is published unrated. What follows is a practical checklist you can use with Skilancer or any cleaning-robot vendor.

For Installers & Engineers

Deeper technical detail beyond the homeowner-facing summary above.

Ask for the row-compatibility envelope: maximum module-row length, table width, gap tolerance between modules and between tables, maximum tilt (the site states 25° climbing), and whether the robot works on tracker or fixed-tilt structures.

Ask how it is moved between rows and who does it — a robot that cleans one row but needs a person or vehicle to relocate it changes the O&M cost model.

Ask for brush material, expected brush life, and any module-surface test evidence. Dry brushing abrasive dust is a known scratch-and-micro-crack concern for some module coatings; request the module manufacturers’ stated cleaning guidance and a written statement that the robot’s use will not void module warranties.

Ask for a measured before-and-after at a comparable site: energy, not just a photo, with irradiance-normalised data and the cleaning frequency used.

Ask what happens in rain, high wind, dew and heavy bird-dropping or cement soiling — dry brushing does not remove everything, and some soils need water.

The Scorecard

How we score

Standards & Safety Compliance

—

Not assessed — no certification or test documentation is published.

Build Quality & Durability

—

Not assessed — IP65 and a 70 °C limit are stated, but no durability, brush-life or corrosion-test data are published.

Fit & Ease of Use

—

Not assessed — no row-length, gap-tolerance or deployment details are published.

Documentation, Warranty & Support

—

Not assessed — no datasheet, warranty or service terms are published.

Value for Money

—

Not assessed — no price or cost-per-MW-cleaned is published.

Strengths

  • Waterless operation (the site lists zero litres of water), relevant in water-stressed regions
  • Self-powered by an integrated PV and LFP battery, per the maker’s website
  • IP65 casing and operation up to 70 °C are stated for the SS-01 series
  • An Indian company, with a range from utility robots to a manual rooftop unit

Watch-outs

  • No datasheet: runtime, battery capacity, dimensions, row limits and warranty are not published
  • The “8–18%” recovery figure is a marketing claim, not a measurement we can verify
  • Dry brushing and module-warranty compatibility must be confirmed in writing
  • The SS-Manual and inspection series have no technical specifications at all on the site

Who It’s For

  • Utility-scale and large C&I owners compiling a shortlist of robotic cleaning vendors — as a name to request a full datasheet and references from
  • O&M managers who want a checklist for evaluating robotic cleaning offers
  • Not yet recommendable for a household: its rooftop product has no published specification

Our Verdict

Not rated. An interesting Indian waterless-cleaning robot, but with no datasheet we would be scoring marketing copy. If you are buying robotic cleaning, ask for the full technical datasheet, a module-manufacturer compatibility statement, a measured energy gain at a comparable site and a written warranty — and treat any single soiling-recovery percentage as a claim to test.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much power do solar panels lose from dust?

It varies widely by site. Dust, rainfall, tilt and nearby activity all matter, so no single percentage applies everywhere. Skilancer states “8–18% depending on location”, which we have not verified. Measure your own plant before buying equipment on a general percentage.

Are waterless cleaning robots safe for solar panels?

It depends on the brush material, the type of dust and the module’s surface coating. Ask the robot vendor for evidence and written confirmation that module warranties are not affected, and check your module maker’s cleaning guidance.

Is the Skilancer robot suitable for a home rooftop?

The SS-01 series is described for multi-megawatt utility plants. The company lists a hand-portable SS-Manual series for rooftops, but publishes no technical specification for it, so we cannot assess it.
