2 kW Solar System Price in Delhi (2026), With Subsidy

A 2 kW rooftop solar system in Delhi costs roughly ₹1.1–1.5 lakh before subsidy. With the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy (₹60,000) and Delhi’s state top-up (₹20,000) — ₹80,000 in total — the cost after subsidy is roughly ₹30,000–70,000. Indicative ranges to check a quote against, not a quote.

Reported: zero-upfront rooftop solar for eligible households (Sept 2026)

News reports from 1 September 2026 say Delhi will install rooftop solar of up to 3 kW at zero upfront cost for households with average consumption up to 400 units a month, subject to technical feasibility, with the Delhi government adding a capital subsidy equal to the central ₹78,000 and covering the remaining cost gap (including the earlier generation incentive), five years of maintenance, and a target of about 2.3 lakh households by March 2027. Reports on how it works — including a utility-led aggregation model with a vendor assigned by the DISCOM, a choice of 2 kW or 3 kW, and first-come-first-served registration on the Delhi Solar Portal — come from news coverage, not from Delhi’s own published rules, and the reports differ in detail. Our calculators and price pages use the standard route (central subsidy plus ₹10,000/kW up to ₹30,000) and do not assume this scheme; if you qualify it may leave you paying far less upfront, so check the Delhi Solar Portal and your DISCOM first.

PM Surya Ghar subsidy window: 31 March 2027

The ₹78,000 central residential subsidy is sanctioned through the end of FY 2026-27 (31 March 2027). Apply and get commissioned well before this date. No extension has been officially notified; MNRE has indicated the one-crore-household target may fall short by March 2027, which makes an extension plausible but not assured — plan around the published date.

How the Subsidy Works for 2 kW in Delhi

  • Central: ₹60,000 under PM Surya Ghar — the same everywhere in India.
  • Delhi: The Delhi top-up is ₹10,000 per kW, so a 2 kW system earns ₹20,000 — still below the ₹30,000 cap, which is reached at 3 kW.
  • Versus a central-only state: a household in Delhi receives ₹20,000 more for this size, so the cost after subsidy is lower by that amount (about ₹50,000–90,000 elsewhere, see the 2 kW India price guide).
  • Generation incentive: Delhi also pays a per-unit incentive for five years. Reported rates differ by source and system size, so it is not included in the figures here — see the Delhi subsidy page.

What You Pay and How Fast It Pays Back

A 2 kW system in Delhi (about 5 peak sun hours) generates around 2,847 units a year. Payback below is the cost after the central and state subsidy divided by the yearly bill saving, from the low to the high end of the cost band.

₹6 per unit₹17,0821.8 – 4.1 years
₹8 per unit₹22,7761.3 – 3.1 years

How to Claim in Delhi

  1. Check whether the reported zero-upfront route might cover you: average consumption up to about 400 units a month and a system of up to 3 kW. The Delhi Solar Portal and your DISCOM are the places to confirm.
  2. Otherwise, register on the national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) with your DISCOM and consumer number, and choose an installer empanelled with that DISCOM.
  3. Apply for the Delhi capital subsidy through the Delhi Solar Portal (solar.delhi.gov.in). The state subsidy follows net-meter installation.
  4. After commissioning and inspection the central subsidy is paid to your bank account by direct benefit transfer. Confirm the timing of the state portion with the portal.

Process as reported and checked October 2026; portals and rules change, so confirm each step with the official portal. State nodal agency: Delhi Solar Portal / EEREM Centre.

What Your Quote Should Include

  • Module make, model and wattage — and written confirmation of ALMM listing and DCR status for that exact model, because the subsidy needs domestically manufactured modules.
  • Inverter make, rating and warranty term, and whether arc-fault (AFCI) protection is included and switched on.
  • Mounting structure: steel grade, thickness, galvanising, and the wind speed it is designed for.
  • DC and AC cable sizes, earthing and lightning protection, and surge protection — the items that get cut when a quote is cheap.
  • Net meter, DISCOM approval and inspection charges, and whether the installer handles the subsidy paperwork.
  • Who services the system, for how long, and what the warranty covers in writing.
